This piece was built for a specific client who wanted a modern wood coffee table. I had asked them to go through my work and tell me what pieces they reacted to. I then married the feeling in those pieces with their functional needs and came up with the design for this table. The composition is balanced but I allowed the existing configuration of the living room to suggest the sweeping curves of the table and bent stretchers below. Despite the site specific inspiration the table is just as independent as any of my pieces and it could easily command the same attention in a different living room, gallery or museum space.
